Here's a picture of Joseph Myer of "One More Cast" doing a casting demonstration at the June meeting and picnic at Sweet Allyn Park. Myer also gave individual hands-on instruction to many members as part of an outstanding program.

This is the Blackhawk TU work party at New Glarus on a tributary of the Little Sugar River on April 17th. In the picture left to right standing: Don Studt, Arlan Hilgendorf, Dave Patrick, John Lusk, Ron Oborle, & Bill Merrick, kneeling, Chris Newberry & Son.
First Trout of the Season?
No, but a very nice first photo of the season from Rick Ingle:
Beginners Fly Tying Class & Fly Rod Combo Awards
The class was taught by Don Studt, John Miller & Arlan Hilgendorf, others who assisted were Rich Ingle, James Ducy and Dave Brethauer. We had a number of positive comments about the class on how the class was taught and what they learned. They indicated they were looking forward to doing it again next year. I guess we can never stop learning. At the completion of the BTU’s Beginner’s fly tying class, Beginners Fly Rod Combos were awarded to the two youths who completed the class. The rods were provided by the Black Hawk TU Chapter 390.

Trout Report From New Zealand
Fred Young's famous! Here he is on the cover of Fish & Game Magazine

Fred caught a 13 pound Brownie! and others (many others):
"My new record for NZ, today a 13 lb. Brown. also a 4 lb, 2 @ 6.5 lbs and 1@ 7.75 lbs.
I am a lucky guy to be experiencing such fishing."

Trout report from New Zealand: first trips were rainbows to 5 lbs got 7. Next day a 5 lbs and 4 lb brown. Then farther south on the Rangatiki we got 20 rainbows with the largest 5.5 lbs. Then did two brown trout days with several each day to 5 lbs
Then flew to South Island one day with 10 bows up to 6 lbs, many on dry flies. That was followed by a gorge that yielded and eight and 3/4 lb brownie. Lost two fish that might have made 10 lbs. Weather in 60-70's but cloudy and some rain. only 3 more weeks of fishing.
1/31/2010: News from Lumsden, New Zealand:
Fished the Mataura, Hamilton Burn, Irving and several sections of the Oreti. The latter yielded 1 @ 7 lbs and another @ 7.5 lbs both on dries. The next day fished the top section and finally scored my first double digit fish landing a 10.125 brown on a stimulator. Beautiful weather. Tomorrow helicoptering into and upper section of a Beech forest stream reputed to be recipient of the effects of the mouse plague which has been stoking the fish to double digit weights. Wish you guys were here.
