Dear Trout Unlimited Members,

Please tell your legislator to help us tell the House of Representatives that they should value cold, clean fishable water and support restoring the strength of the Clean Water Act.

WHY WE CARE
As a passionate angler, you know how valuable cold, clean headwaters are to great trout fishingand healthy communities. Unfortunately, some members of the House Appropriations Committee don’t seem to value clean water and fishing, and are attacking the Clean Water Act (CWA). Defying the nation’s sportsmen groups, they voted last week to cut off funding for a helpful new CWA policy designed to protect headwater streams which account for nearly 60 percent of stream miles in the U.S. This is where you pull out your 3-weight rod for highly prized wild and native trout populations and witness the critical spawning habitat for salmon and steelhead. Keeping these headwaters clean and healthy means better water quality, better fishing, and healthier communities downstream.

WHAT YOU CAN DO
Please visit our online action centertoday to tell your member of Congress to oppose this roll-back of essential protections in the CWA and to strip it from the bill, as well as oppose any future threats to the Clean Water Act and our angling heritage. We need to act today because Congress will be working on this issue in the coming weeks and need to hear your voice now before it is too late.
Thank you for your time and commitment to our most valuable streams and rivers.

Sincerely,
Steve Moyer
Vice President of Government Affairs
Trout Unlimited

Subject: Fw: Bill 24 eliminates special protection to Wisconsin Trout Streams
State Council Leaders,
As if you needed more reasons to contact your legislators about AB 24, here is more analysis of a portion of the bill by Lee Meyers. Lee is a retired fisheries biologist.
Kim

To TU;
 Under the Areas of Special Natural Resource Interest (ASNRI) section, the wording in Bill 24 would exclude trout waters from extra protection.      In previous Chapter 30 language, trout waters were given an Outstanding or Exceptional Waters Designation and that gave them special consideration for physical alterations (bridges, filling or dredging).    Bill 24 would elminate this extra protection of trout waters, and only give special consideration to specific habitat areas that are important to Endangered orthreatened species.
from,
Lee Meyers
