The DNR has become aware of a new technology in crop irrigation. This technology involves a new well design, constructing the well screen horizontally and connecting it to the vertical well casing. A number of these systems were constructed without DNR High-Capacity well approvals. As a result these unapproved horizontal wells may pose a threat to Wisconsin's surface water resources.
In order to protect our trout streams the DNR needs to know where these horizontal wells are. Please review this picture and keep these systems in mind as you are out fishing. If you see wells that look like horizontal wells please report them to the DNR TIP line. 1-800-TIP-WDNR or 1-800-847-9367
