Barbless hook vs barbed hooks

I don't think there is a significant difference between hooking related mortality.

Re: Barbless hook vs barbed hooks

Are you using the statisitcal "significant" or the general concept? Most people have no idea of what statistical significants is. Compared to overall mortality the variance may well not be "significant" but I will contiuue to go barbless. I know that the fish are easier to release and thus must do better. I also know that the hook goes in easier making hooking easier. I also know it comes out of me easier and that is a very "significant" factor.

Re: Barbless hook vs barbed hooks

I've been going a middle route. I do not buy barbless hooks for fly tying, but I pinch down the barbs on-stream, even during the regular season. I'd like to think this gets me the best of both worlds -- a little rounded nubbin of a barb that holds fish better than pure barbless, but which has almost no resistence during release.
