As we enter a new year our conservation plans for 2012 will instantly move forward. Chapters are putting finishing touches on stream improvement plans for the new year, grant applications are being finalized, fund raising plans are in full gear, and educational activities like tying classes and fishing schools are about to begin. It’s an exciting time for everyone involved with Trout Unlimited.
The Wisconsin State Council is also working at a frantic pace to get plans finalized for its main fund raising effort for the year. This year’s annual fund raising banquet will be held on Saturday, February 4 at the Holiday Inn at Rothschild, WI just south of Wausau. Funds raised at the banquet will support not only the Council’s chapter supporting activities, but also our conservation agenda for the year.
We expect 2012 to be a challenging year for coldwater conservation. There are major issues developing related to mining, and groundwater withdrawals that will present major challenges to Trout Unlimited’s mission to protect and enhance the trout streams of Wisconsin. How well we are able to meet the challenges will be determined by our ability to deliver our conservation message and support our partners around the state.
I encourage both members and non members who support the concept of preserving cold, clear running trout waters to support us at our banquet. Tickets are $35.00 and can be ordered from Kim McCarthy, 736 Meadowbrook Ct., Green Bay, WI, 54313. My hope is that I get to see many of you at the banquet on Feb. 4.
